Kidnapping Plan Was An Attempt To Extort Money

Three people are in police custody after investigators say they devised an elaborate scheme to extort money by planning a fake kidnapping.  

On Monday Birmingham police officers got information from a man who claimed his friend had been kidnapped by drug dealers and was being held for ransom.

The man stated he had already paid money to the kidnappers but they were demanding more money. After police investigated the report they located two people who admitted the story was fake and an attempted to get money.

Three people were arrested, they are, Dennis Niebruegge, Michelle Byars and Anthony Wiley.

 All three are charged with extortion and were taken to the Jefferson County jail.
