Bay County School Board Continues To Up Security Measures

By: Stephen Crews
Updated: February 22, 2011

Security inside the school board room continues to get stronger.

Superintendent Bill Husfelt along with other school board members recommended for eight chairs in the front row of the public seating area to be removed for security precautions.  Following the shooting that took place in a December school board meeting, the district amped up its security.  So far, it’s hired two armed Bay County deputies to sit in on every meeting, changed the way public comments are delivered, and locked off all but one entrance into the room.

“We had a meeting and walked around with an architect and contractor that was doing the work and decided some things that we wanted to do to make it a little bit safer, as safe as we can having people that close to you,” said Superintendent Bill Husfelt.

Husfelt adds there will be more security adjustments made, though not all will be visible.
