Neither team could pull away, with 11 ties and 10 lead changes during the game. Alabama took a brief lead in the final minute on a driving lay-up by Trevor Releford.
Tinsley answered at the other end, drawing contact and hitting a jumper to give the Commodores the lead for good. Alabama's final chance to tie came up short, when JaMychal Green stepped out of bounds on a drive to the basket in the final seconds.
Green scored 23 points to lead Alabama. The Crimson Tide hasn't won in Nashville since 1990, a string of 11 straight losses to Vanderbilt on the road.
