Publix Recalls Ice Cream Due To Allergy Threat

By: Stephen Crews
Updated: February 1, 2011
Publix is recalling a batch of ice cream that could cause a fatal reaction for people allergic to almonds.

The product lot code on the bottom of the carton is ‘Sep 12 2011 B7 PLT 12-444,’ but the packaging is an easy clue: the product is packaged with a Light Tiramisu Ice Cream carton and an Almond Fudge Light Ice Cream lid.

The packages may contain almonds that do not appear on the carton label.

The recall affects Publix stores in Georgia and four other states: Alabama, Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Publix learned of the problem when a consumer noticed the "mix-matched" packaging.
