Secretary Of State Beth Chapman Prepares To Take Oath For Second Term

Secretary of State Beth Chapman will be sworn in for her second term of office on Monday. She will take the constitutional oath of office from Alabama Supreme Court Justice Patricia Smith on the steps of the historic Alabama State Capitol building. This is expected to be Smith’s final act as a Supreme Court Justice before her retirement.
Chapman’s agenda in her second term includes fighting for easier methods for military voters to cast their ballots, continuing the fight against voter fraud and pushing for photo identification for voters at polling places. Another priority for Chapman includes making it easier for businesses and corporations to file records with her office by allowing electronic filing and record keeping.
"We have made great progress and accomplished much in my first four years as secretary of state," Chapman said. "But, there is still much to be done. I will continue to work tirelessly for the people of the state of Alabama for years to come."
