Dentist Services Coming To Walton County Health Department

By: Stephen Crews
Updated: January 13, 2011

On Monday, January 10, 2011, Walton County Health Department began providing dental services at the new dental clinic located at 362 Highway 83 North in DeFuniak Springs, FL.  Our new dentist is Dr. Arjen van de Voorde, DDS.  Medicaid enrolled children through age 20 are eligible for dental care, which includes exams, x-rays, cleanings, sealants, fillings, oral health education, and routine extractions and root canals.

Dr. van de Voorde states, “Treatment of dental disease is one of our goals, but prevention actually provides the best long term oral health for children, and although regular dental visits are part of prevention, the parent and child actually play the greater role.  Bedtime and nighttime sipping of juices and milk by toddlers and sipping of soft drinks during day by children and teenagers are extremely harmful to baby and adult teeth. Good oral hygiene in the morning and before bedtime greatly reduces cavity causing plaque.”

For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact the Walton County Health Department Dental Department at (850) 892 – 8686.
