Updated: January 10, 2011

On January 8th, 2011 an Officer with the Marianna Police Department was patrolling the area around The Friendly Corner Sports Bar on St. Andrews Street, when the sound of gunshots were heard.

The Officer alerted other Officers and a search began for a possible suspect. While Officers were canvassing the area, an Officer was met head on with the possible suspect vehicle. The Officer had to take evasive movements to avoid being struck head on. Another Officer also observed the vehicle, a white Ford Explorer, run the stop sign at the intersection of Old Cottondale Road and Orange Street.

Officers then activated their emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle. At that time the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed, traveling west on Old Cottondale Road. Still continuing not to stop for Police, the vehicle made a right hand turn onto Harrison Street. The vehicle then came to a sliding stop and the driver of the vehicle fled on foot.

Officers observed the suspect run into a nearby residence. Officers made entry into the residence and found the suspect lying on a bed in the rear of the residence. Officers were able to take the suspect, Ronald Brown, into custody.

Brown is being charged with Fleeing and Attempting to Elude, Driving While License Suspended/Knowingly, and Resisting Arrest Without Violence. Brown was transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.
