Mrs. Emma Lavonia Grantham Phelps of Valley, Alabama, formerly of Geneva passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010.She was 94.Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 14, in the Geneva City Cemetery with Rev. Sam Totten officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing.The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:30 pm.Mrs. Phelps was born March 19, 1916 in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Gordan Daniel and Ida Grantham.She, along with her husband “Gus,” owned and operated Phelps Grocery in Geneva for 20 years.She was also employed with Phillips Van Heusen and Gilstrap Drug Company for several years.Mrs. Emma was an avid gardener; she loved flowers.She was totally devoted to her family and she loved them dearly.In addition to her parents, her husband, Hubert Augusta “Gus” Phelps, three brothers and two sisters, preceded her in death.Survivors include one daughter, Schella Phelps Taylor, Valley, AL; two grandsons, Jason Taylor, Sevierville, TN, Chase Taylor, Odenton, MD; one sister-in-law, Helen Coleman, Columbus, GA; two special nieces, Betty Adams, Columbus, GA, Lillian (Roy) Eason, Pasadena, TX.
