Royce Starling

Royce Starling, a resident of Dothan, died Saturday morning, July 3, 2010, in a Dothan hospital. He was 88. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 5, 2010, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with a son, Reverend David Starling officiating. Graveside services, with military rites, will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:30 P. M. Sunday at the mortuary in Headland. At other times, the family will be at the residence, 1954 Starling Road, Dothan. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes and Family Ministries, P.O. Box 361767, Birmingham, AL. 35236-1767.
Mr. Starling was born and reared in Haleburg, son of the late William (Bill) Starling and Ozie Lee Starling. He moved to Dothan in 1946 where he was a member of the Beulah Baptist Church. A U. S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Starling served his country in New Guinea, South Philippines and Luzon and was awarded the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal with one Bronze Star. He was retired as the owner and operator of Starling & Sons Masonry of Dothan. Mr. Starling was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Lingo Starling and a brother, Archie Starling.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Linda Starling, Dothan; three sons, Mike Starling and wife, Sharon, Ormond Beach, FL.; Ricky Starling and wife, Peggy, Taylor, AL; and Reverend David Starling and wife, Dale, Henagar, AL.; three sisters, Doris Harp, Columbus, GA; Gladys Brown, Headland; Irma Ready, Cowarts; three brothers, Billy Starling, Baker Hill; A. R. Starling and wife, Merle, Dothan; Homer Ray Starling and wife, Janice, Grimes; sisters-in-law, Ila Bristow, Columbia and Toni Lingo, Tallahassee, FL.; grandchildren, Ashley Meadows (Daniel), Sandy Parish (Hugh), Chad Vann (Melissa Waterman), Paige Davis (Bob), Summer Starling, Crystal Starling, Jill Hartzell (Kevin), Rachel Shiver (Toby), Dawn Stewart (Joe), Mark Starling (Kim), Michelle Turvin (Keith), Eryn Wilson, Candace Edmonds (Kyle), D J Starling (Kerry); nineteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Martha Sanders, Abbeville.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Chad Vann, Hugh Parish, Daniel Meadows, Bob Davis, Joe Stewart, Mark Starling, Kevin Hartzell, Toby Shiver, Kyle Edmonds, D J Starling, Danny Ray Starling and Lee Ready.
