James Douglas “Pop Doug” Fuller

Mr. James Douglas “Pop Doug” Fuller, age 90 died Monday, June 28, 2010 at Doctors Memorial Hospital in Bonifay Florida. Funeral services honoring the life of Mr. Fuller will be 2 P.M. Thursday, July 1, 2010 in the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Dr.Mike Pearson and Reverend John Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery under the direction of Ward Wilson Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service time on Thursday. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Greystone United Methodist Church Building fund or the Alabama-Florida Council, BSA. Mr. Fuller was born on October 1, 1919 in Houston County, the son of the late Mack A. Fuller and Erie Judah Fuller. He was a 1938 graduate of Dothan High School and served in the US Navy during WWII. After the war he went to work with Bay Line Railroad for sixteen years. He worked for the Dothan Eagle first as a Chief Accountant and later as an outdoor sports writer, writing the column “Outdoors with Doug”. It was Mr. Fullers love for the outdoors and wildlife which led him to open Sports Supply Company in 1965, which later became Southern Outdoor Sports. He was a regular on the Charlie Platt show and was loved by the T.V. audience.. He was a former Scout Master, a former commander of the VFW Post 3073, a former District Commander of the VFW, was instrumental in the development of the VFW golf course, was appointed by Governor James E. Folsom to the State Board of Veteran Affairs, was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club, and a Free Masion . He loved to Garden and was a member of Greystone United Methodist Church which was formally Lafayette Street United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death two sisters and six brothers. Mr. Fuller leaves behind to cherish his memories his loving wife of seventy years, Avis Fuller of Dothan, daughters, Sherry Dean and her husband Bobby of Dothan, Rosalind Norman and her husband Joe of Tallahassee, Florida, son, Ronald Fuller and his wife Judie of Ashford, sister-in-laws, Margaret Fuller of Dothan, Chloe Fuller of Valdosta, Georgia, Sara Williams and her husband Sam of Dothan, brother-in-law, Ealy Brackin and his wife Shirley of Dothan, grandchildren, Steve Dean and his wife Patsy, Brian Dean, Derek Fuller and his wife Debbie, Joey Norman and his wife Stacey, Jason Fuller and his wife Kim, great-grandchildren, Brittany Haines and her husband Brad, Jordan Dean, Brandon Dean, Claudia Fuller, Sam Fuller, Genevieve Norman, Henry Norman, great-great grandchildren, Maddie, Will and Josh Haines, numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Mr. Fuller’s grandsons along with special nephew Eric Fuller. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Golden K Kiwanis Club.  www.wardwilson.com
