Dothan Police and the Houston County Sheriff's office are hoping a grant will help them better protect the public. The two agencies received a grant to put new cameras and and computers in their patrol vehicles. The $56,000 grant will be split between the two agencies.

Dothan Police Chief Greg Benton says the value of cameras goes beyond money. "In my opinion is one of the most important tools that a law enforcement officer can have as far as protection of the citizen, the officer and collection of video evidence," Chief Benton said.

The grant will not cover the total cost of the upgrades. The city will pick up 20% - which amounts to just under $2,000.
