Bird House

Tools needed:
* Circular saw
* Drill
* Eye Protection
* Tape measure
* 1 x 6 x 8 of cedar or redwood
* 1.5 nails
* Wood glue
* 1.5 hole saw bit for your drill

1. Mark and cut the following pieces from a 1 x 6 x 8:
* Back: 16 x 5.5
* Roof: 7 x 5.5
* Door: 4 x 10 with a 1.5 hole 2.5 from the top
* Floor: 4.5 x 4 with notched corners (The notches will allow excess moisture to drain.)
* Doorway: 2.75 x 2.75 with a 1.5 hole in the center
* Two(2) sides: 5.5 x 11 on one side, angled to 10 on the other
2. Attach doorway piece to door panel, lining up the 1.5 holes. This will make the door double-thick, helping to defend the interior against predators.
3. Using nails and wood glue assemble the back, sides, and bottom of the house.
4. Using two nails attach the door in between the sides (Figure 4). The nails will serve as hinges, allowing the door to swing up. This will allow you to clean out the house every year - making room for a new nest. (Note: Leave space between the top of the door and the roof, allowing for ventilation.)
5. Mount the house on a plastic pipe, which is 5-6 feet off the ground. The plastic pole will prevent predators, such as snakes, from reaching the house.
6. Install the house. The ideal location for a bluebird house is on the edge of a wooded area, facing east. It is also helpful if there are shrubs in the clearing in front of the house.
