Ruth Carter Parker, a resident of Parker Road, Eufaula, died early Friday morning, June 25, 2010, at her home. She was 78. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M. Sunday, June 27, 2010, in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, located south of Eufaula, with Reverend Woody Brown and Reverend Terry Birdsong officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Sunday in the church sanctuary. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Wiregrass Hospice of Eufaula, 831 West Washington Street, Eufaula, AL. 36027. Mrs. Parker was born and reared in the Mt. Vernon community in Clay County, Georgia, daughter of the late Henry Carter and Barby Stella Shuman Carter. She moved to Barbour County, near Eufaula, in 1948. Mrs. Parker was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earnest Parker and five brothers, Clarence B. Carter, Elbert Carter, Allen R. Carter, Hiram Carter and Billy Carter. Surviving relatives include two sons, Robert Leon Parker and wife, Catherine Parker; Howard O’Neil Parker and wife, Mary Parker, all of Eufaula; four grandchildren, Sandy Rhodes and husband, Jeff Rhodes, Becky Rhodes and husband, Reggie Rhodes, James Parker and William Parker; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Dow, Miami, Fl; Frances Palmer, Sanford, FL; a brother, Willis Carter and wife, Vonda Carter, Sorrento, FL; three sisters-in-law, Amy Carter, Doris Carter, Montgomery; Elaine Carter, Abbeville; several nieces and nephews. Serving as active pallbearers will be James Parker, Wayne Parker, Jeff Rhodes, Reggie Rhodes, Joe Carter, Will Rhodes, Terry Carter and Kevin Brown.
