Ziniel Daniel (Phil) Phillips

Zilman Daniel (Phil) Phillips, a resident of Webb, died late Saturday morning, April 3, 2010, in the Bill Nichols State Veterans Home in Alexander City, Alabama. He was 81.           


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Tuesday, April 6, 2010, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Danny Starling and Mr. Ray Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in the Webb Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A. M. Tuesday at the mortuary in Headland. At other times, the family will be at the home of a son, Larry Phillips, 3830 Enon Road, Webb.           


Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Resource Center, P.O. Box 1170, Dothan, AL. 36302.           


Mr. Phillips was born in Commerce, Georgia but was reared in Anderson, South Carolina, son of the late Lewis Jefferson Phillips and Minnie Lee Smith Phillips. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy when he was seventeen years old and served his country in both the U. S. Navy and U. S. Air Force. Mr. Phillips retired from the Air Force with rank of Staff Sergeant in 1966 and was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He lived in various locations in the United States and overseas while serving in the military. Mr. Phillips moved to Webb in 1969 where owned and operated the A to Z Service. He was a member of the Webb Baptist Church. Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Walker Phillips, a sister, Jimmie Clack and two brothers, Nathan Phillips and Bob Phillips.           


Surviving relatives include two sons, Wayne D. Phillips and wife, Clarissa Phillips, St. Stevens, New Brunswick, Canada; Larry Phillips and wife, Susan Phillips, Webb, AL; six granddaughters, Suzette Phillips Aman and husband, Mark, Stephanie Phillips Clemente and fiance’, Kevin Rockett, Summer Phillips Buchanan and husband, Bryan, Alicia Phillips, Miranda Phillips and Jessica Phillips; four great-grandchildren, Raffaele Clemente, Mary Suzan Aman, Anna Mark Aman and Bryleigh Buchanan.           


Serving as active pallbearers will be Mark Aman, Bryan Buchanan, Ray Cobb, Joe May, Brent Murray and Larry Forrester.
