Reported by: Lila Grace Wednesday, Oct 14, 2009 @06:27pm CDT It was family, friends and fans who rallied around Dothan's 21st mural Wednesday morning to honor some country music stars.
One of those celebrities is country star is Billy Dean, who believes photographs don't justify this kind of art work. "They sent me a couple of pictures and the process but there is nothing like sitting her and seeing that."said Dean. The sight left him feeling more than a little pleased. "It is a great honor." said Dean. He was content with much more than who he was painted next to. "I am glad they got me about 15 years younger on that picture." Dean joked. The dedication started with a few classic hits and ended with artist giving back to the fans. But the music brought back many memories. "We always woke up to my dad singing and playing guitar every morning."said James Watford, son of Jimmy Watford "My grandkids and great grandkids can come by years from now and see their granddaddy." said Watford. But Watford doesn't have to wait years because his 7 year-old granddaughter Carolyn came to her granddady's dedication. " I hope I can be like him when I get older." said Carolyn. The mural is located on 308 North Foster Street. The mural includes; Hank Williams, Hank Williams Jr., Audrey Williams, Dixie Hatfield, Don Helms, Lamar Morris, Curly Walker, George Jones, Lew Childree, Stonewall Jackson, Jimmy Watford, Billy Dean, Daryl Singeltary, Charlie Monk, Boudreaux Bryant and Ray Kirkland. |
